Latin sailing: the schedule and how to enjoy this event
The Latin sailing exhibitions return to La Albufera in Valencia in 2026, with a programme running from May to October. These events offer the chance to witness first-hand one of the lake’s most iconic traditions, with boats sailing solely under sail.
Unlike other, more historical articles, this one focuses on what matters most to visitors: when they take place, where to see them, and how to make the most of the experience.

2026 Calendar: all exhibition dates

Where the exhibitions take place
Although the schedule is standardised, the venue changes for each day. The exhibitions are held at various locations around the Albufera, depending on the organising association.
The main venues are:
- Catarroja
- Silla
- Sollana
- And the area around the lake near El Palmar
This last point is particularly important, as it is one of the most accessible areas for visitors and one of the best places from which to enjoy the event.

What makes each day special
Every display has its own character. It is not a fixed event, but rather a series of gatherings organised by different groups, which means that the route, the number of boats and the type of manoeuvres vary.
On some days, dozens of boats take to the water at the same time, creating a truly distinctive sight on the lake.
What’s more, these displays usually begin around midday, when wind conditions are at their best.
How to watch the displays, and why everything looks different from the water
You can watch the displays from the shore, particularly in areas close to the departure points. However, the experience is completely different when you’re out on the lake.
From the water:
- You can see the movement of the sails more clearly
- You understand the manoeuvres
- And you experience the surroundings much more intimately
This turns a simple observation into a much richer experience.

A full day out in the Albufera
The dates of the exhibitions coincide with the busiest months in the Albufera, making it easy to combine different activities in a single day.
A visit could include:
- A tour of the natural surroundings, a boat trip on the Albufera
- Lunch in El Palmar
- And attending a performance
This type of day out allows you to enjoy the Albufera from a different perspective, where landscape, tradition and culture blend together naturally. Better light and more stable winds.
2026: the best time to see lateen sails in action
The 2026 calendar confirms that the lateen sail remains an active part of life in the Albufera today. Over the course of several months, these exhibitions offer a chance to experience a tradition that has not been left behind, but continues to sail today.
Because here it’s not just about watching… it’s about seeing how the Albufera is still alive.
